The story behind “Jesus, Messiah” 83

11216807_927187230689570_3180211704379260235_nIt’s not easy writing Christmas songs. You’re up against the greats when it comes to this category! As I sat down to write “Jesus, Messiah,” there was a desire to put Jesus on display rather than the snow or the nostalgia. While Christmas is one of my favourite memories, it’s not the one that set me free or gave me a life worth living. No matter how hard I may have tried, there was a slim chance I was gonna write anything less then an anthem for a Saviour.

The song practically wrote itself as words began to form to tell of the one who died and rose again for us. His very name is, God is with us. No matter the tragedy or the victory, He remains. Nothing can separate us! No matter the sin or the state of the world, the debt was paid by Jesus’ sacrifice and it can never be erased or undone. We are hidden in His name, destined for victory, and purchased by His blood. I don’t know about You, but I’ve found no sweeter name then the name of Jesus, Messiah!

With this in mind, let’s challenge ourselves to really put Christ on display in our lives. Not just because it’s Christmas and everyone will say that, but because of what He has done in us. No longer should we hide the light bursting forth inside of us. If there is healing to offer, then offer it. If the hopeless find their hope, is it not the kingdom’s gain? But if we keep light to ourselves, what darkness will it conquer? Jesus is more than a song we sing or the reason for the season, He’s alive in us and ready to change some lives!
